Sally Lee has worked in educational settings and nonprofits for nearly thirty years. A born-and-raised New Yorker, Sally is a graduate of Wesleyan University, and Bank Street College of Education. She taught fifth and sixth grade in a Lower East Side public school. Sally founded Teachers Unite in 2006 as a strategic center for public school educators focusing on collaborating with low-income and working class BIPOC communities to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline. In the fifteen years that she was Executive Director, Teachers Unite built a membership of hundreds, represented educators in the local and national Dignity in Schools Campaigns, and released a documentary, Growing Fairness, seen by thousands, that helped explode the conversation about Restorative Justice in schools across the country. In 2022, Sally stepped down as Executive Director and began working as a consultant, supporting grassroots organizations with development, including fundraising, strategy, and planning. Sally’s previous experience completing Social Justice Leadership’s Transformative Organizing Institute, as well as Rockwood Leadership Institute’s Art of Leadership, influences her approach to organizational planning, accountability, and development. She lives in her beloved Lower East Side with her husband and two sports-playing sons. She attends many, many baseball games.
