Feb 19: BOP Joins Public Counsel in Fix School Discipline, LCFF Webinar

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]id you know the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) will add $2.1 billion in education spending over the 2013-2014 school year? Did you know that LCFF has shifted the way California makes decisions about education spending?

On Wednesday, Feb 19, BOP is co-hosting a webinar with our advocacy partners at Public Counsel to give the community an overview of LCFF and talk about the strategies BOP is using on the ground to make sure Oakland spends this money on improving school climate!

For BOP, that means shifting the focus from investment in law enforcement and harsh discipline practices back to direct investment in our students and the caring adults that will help them succeed, like parents and school counselors. On this webinar, Public Counsel will share their How We Can Fix School Discipline toolkit to help communities understand current school discipline issues in California, advocate for change in their communities, and make sure the money from LCFF gets invested in alternative models that keep students in class.

Join Laura Faer, Statewide Education Rights Director for Public Counsel, and Jasmine Jones, Community Organizer for the Black Organizing Project for the webinar on Wed. 2/19 from 10:30am-12:00pm!
